ABSTRACT

Objective To revise and evaluation the psychometric properties and usability of the Personal Meaning Profile Brief( PMP-B) . Methods 1256 university students were measured by PMP-B, Purpose in Life ( PIL) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale ( SWLS) ,and 234 university students were meas-ured by Meaningful Life Measure ( MLM) .321 university students were measured by PMP-B twice at differ-ent time after four weeks to analyze the reliability and validity of PMP-B. Results The items discrimination indices were all above 0.4(r=0.470-0.833,P<0.01). The internal consistency reliability of PMP-B was 0.957,the split-half reliability was 0.936 and the test-retest reliability was 0.852. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the hypothesized seven-factor model of PMP-B (χ2/df=3.17,GFI=0.965,AGFI=0.947,RMR=0.042,NFI=0.977,CFI=0.982,RMSEA=0.042). The criterion correlations with PIL,MLM and SWLS were 0.710,0.842 and 0.756 respectively (P<0.01). The PMP-B total score of the university students was (112.07±20.02),and female had high life meaning than male which was more positive in interpersonal rela-tionship,life belief and self-acceptance. Conclusion The reliability and validity of PMP-B are favorable,it can assess people''''s life meaning from different sources.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationships among negative life events, meaning in life and suicidal risk of college students. Methods A total of 897 students from southern medical university were surveyed by adolescent life events scale (ALES),suicidal behaviors questionnaire-revised (SBQ-R) and meaningful life measure-Chinese revised (MLM-CR).Results The scores of negative life events, meaning in life and suicidal risk were 1.03±0.88,124.32±20.35 and 4.17± 1.66,respectively.There were 64 (7.1%) college students with high risk of suicide. The overall stress score was positively correlated with total suicidal risk score (r=0.134,P<0.01).Total suicidal risk score was negatively correlated with total score of meaning in life(r=-0.340,P<0.01).Moderating effects of meaning in life between negative life events and suicidal risk were significant (P<0.01).Meaning in life fully mediated the effects of negative life events on suicidal risk (P<0.01),which accounted for 59.6% of the total effects. Conclusion Meaning in life as a mediator and moderator between negative life events and suicidal risk.Meaning in life might play protective role in reducing the suicidal risk.
